SALT LAKE CITY — Two people were killed in a crash on Redwood Road in Salt Lake City on Thursday when a van hit head-on with a garbage truck on Match 24, 2022, according to police.
The incident happened about 7:20 a.m. at 980 S. Redwood Road. A van heading north on Redwood Road crossed over into on-coming traffic without warning and hit a southbound Salt Lake City garbage truck head-on, said police officer Michael Ruff. Two people in the van were killed. The driver of the truck, who hit his brakes to avoid the crash, Ruff said, was taken to a local hospital to be treated for minor injuries. No information about the victims was not immediately released.
The investigation into what caused the van to cross into oncoming traffic, as well as how fast the vehicles were going at the time of impact, was ongoing Thursday morning.
The southbound lanes of Redwood Road were expected to remain closed at Indiana Avenue for a few hours. Drivers are encouraged to avoid the area and use an alternate route.
