A man was transported to a hospital in “very poor condition” after he was struck by a car while crossing 3400 South near 1400 West on Wednesday night, West Valley police said.
About 9:50 p.m. police received reports of an auto-pedestrian crash, West Valley Police Lt. Bill Merritt said. The driver told police that they struck a pedestrian who was crossing the street and that “he was face down and not moving,” Merritt added.
The man was not in a crosswalk when he was hit, according to police.
The man was transported to the hospital in very poor condition but paramedics were able to find a heartbeat while en route. The man’s current condition is unknown.
“Right now we’re just hoping that he pulls through,” Merritt said.
The driver stayed on scene and is cooperating with police, he added.
Eastbound lanes from Redwood Road to 1200 West on 3300 South were closed Wednesday night while police investigated. Traffic units will assist with the investigation, according to Merritt.
