A 4-year-old girl and a 75-year-old man died in a crash in Provo on Thursday afternoon, police said.
Emergency crews responded to a head-on crash near 600 W. Lakeview Parkway just after 2:30 p.m., Provo police said in a tweet. Photos from the scene show two pickup trucks were involved in the crash.
A 31-year-old woman was eastbound in a tan pickup truck with the 4-year-old girl as passenger, police said. Evidence from the crash investigation shows that the truck drifted into the shoulder, and the driver may have overcorrected and crossed the center line into oncoming traffic, according to police.
The 75-year-old man was driving westbound in a white truck, which crashed into the tan truck and then caught fire, police said. Another driver who was passing by stopped and put out the fire with an extinguisher that was in their car.
Police have not yet identified the two people who died. The 31-year-old woman was treated for injuries, but it’s unclear how severe her injuries were, police said.
The three people involved were trapped in the cars after the crash, and Provo fire crews helped extricate them.
