Tuesday snow prompts highway closures; school moved to remote learning

SALT LAKE CITY — Tuesday’s snowstorm prompted multiple road closures and caused at least one school to cancel in-person classes.

Southbound I-15 and northbound Bangerter Highway were reopened after closing early Tuesday in multiple locations due to weather conditions and crashes after the county received a fresh layer of snow overnight.

• Transportation officials reported a pileup crash at 2100 North in Lehi on southbound I-15.

• Multiple crashes were reported northbound on Bangerter Highway at 10600 South in South Jordan, closing the highway in that area.

• Bangerter Highway also closed temporarily at 6200 South in West Jordan due to weather.

• The left lane was blocked on southbound Bangerter Highway at 9100 South in West Jordan.

• In Salt Lake City, eastbound lanes at 600 North at 600 West were also closed after a crash.

The Salt Lake City Police Department said it investigated seven crashes on the I-15 overpass at 600 North.

“It appears these crashes were a result of icy road conditions. Whenever snow and ice is in the forecast, it is a good reminder to slow your speed and drive safely,” police tweeted.

The Utah Transit Authority warned travelers to expect delays throughout the morning of up to 40 minutes on FrontRunner trains both northbound and southbound.

Eastmont Middle School in Sandy moved to a remote learning day due to a power and heat outage “that is not expected to be restored soon,” Canyons School District officials announced on social media.
