A car accident can happen in an instant, and while some crashes are caused by weather or road conditions, most stem from common driving errors, such as:
Once a negligent driver has caused an accident, that may only be the beginning of your difficulties. Painful injuries, medical bills, lost income, and other challenges could soon become overwhelming.
Unfortunately, seeking help from an insurance company can also be fraught with obstacles, especially if your accident qualifies for an at-fault claim.
If you’ve been in an accident, report it to the local authorities immediately and get medical attention for any injuries, even if they seem minor. After you’ve received medical care, it’s a good idea to access a copy of the police report and discuss it with a seasoned personal injury attorney.
At Valley Law Accident & Injury Lawyers, we’re always available to answer your questions and outline your options for obtaining compensation after a car accident.
To obtain a Riverton Police Department car accident report, you must submit a written request to the Records Officer, providing a detailed description that reasonably identifies the specific requested record. They offer an online form so you can place your request from home.
You’ll enter standard contact information (name, address, phone number, email address) and the record details. Because Utah limits who can acquire a car accident report to involved parties and their representatives, you will be asked to upload a scan of your photo ID for identification purposes.
The ideal way to be specific about your request is to include the case number, which you can find on the paperwork provided by the responding officer. The case number is not a required field on the form, but it will make finding your report much more straightforward.
If you cannot find the case number, offer other specifics, such as the date, location, and approximate time of the collision. Aside from the street name, it can be helpful to add the nearest cross street or mile marker to narrow down where the accident occurred.
You will be asked if you want to receive a digital copy of the report or view it at Riverton City Hall. Viewing the records is free; a digital copy is usually $10, and if photos from the accident scene are available, you can get them on a CD for $20.
Since car accident records are not public in Utah, you’ll be asked to explain why you should have access to the records. Drivers, passengers, injured people, or owners of damaged property should select “I am the subject of the record.”
Once you finish the form and submit it, the Riverton Police Department should respond within ten business days.
If you prefer to make your request in person, you can visit the Riverton Police Department during standard business hours at:
12810 South Redwood Rd
Riverton, UT 84065
Remember to bring your photo ID.
Maybe. Misconceptions about PIP and Utah’s no-fault rules are common.
Some people believe all accidents are no-fault or that PIP should cover all their damages, but this isn’t true. Here are some facts about PIP and no-fault insurance in Utah:
