Saratoga Springs Police Accident Reports

Situated near the picturesque Lake Mountains range, Saratoga Springs has seen rapid population growth in recent decades. This growth has brought more cars and traffic, which unfortunately presents more opportunities for collisions.

If you’ve suffered a car accident in or near Saratoga Springs, you could be in pain and unable to work for weeks or months. Meanwhile, medical bills still need to be paid, your car still needs repairs, and all your normal expenses are still there.

How can you get the compensation you need to deal with these losses?

For minor car accidents, Utah’s required $3,000 in Personal Injury Protection (PIP) insurance may provide a solution. However, if your medical bills are over $3,000 or you sustained a permanent disability or impairment, you may be eligible for an at-fault claim.

This would allow you to recover more damages from the at-fault driver’s liability insurance, but proving fault will be necessary.

Unfortunately, the insurance adjuster will immediately search for any indication that you were responsible. To protect your interests, we recommend accessing a copy of your police car accident report and reviewing it with a seasoned car accident attorney.

The Valley Law Accident & Injury Lawyers team is always available to assist you with a free consultation so you can learn more about your options.

How Can You Get Your Saratoga Springs Police Department Car Accident Report?

The Saratoga Springs Police Department uses an online portal to manage requests for records under the Government Records Access Management Act (GRAMA). From this portal, you can quickly request an accident report anytime.

A head-on collision between two grey vehicles in a city in the evening. You will be asked to describe in detail the records you need. We recommend including the date, location, and approximate time of the accident, along with the names of the involved parties.

For location, it’s helpful to include the nearest cross street or landmarks in addition to the street name.

There is a separate field that asks for the case number, which you can find on a piece of paper the responding officer provides at the scene. While this field is not required, a case number may shorten the time it takes to fulfill your request, so you should make every effort to locate the number.

You’ll also need to enter your date of birth and contact information, including your name, address, phone number, and email address. After you submit your request, it may take up to ten working days to hear back from the police department.

You can also visit the police department during regular business hours to obtain a report. Their address is:

Saratoga Springs Police Department

1307 North Commerce Dr., Suite 120

Saratoga Springs, UT 84045

Be prepared to show your ID when you request a report.

Can Anyone Request an Accident Report?

No. Utah law limits the release of these records to involved parties and their representatives.

Generally, people named in the report—drivers, passengers, injured parties, owners of damaged property, etc.—are considered involved parties. Parents or legal guardians of an involved minor may also seek a report.

If you don’t think your name appears in the report but believe you are involved, you should explain your involvement in the records description box. Someone from the Records Department will follow up with you if they have additional questions.

What Damages Can You Seek in a Car Accident Claim?

If you meet the threshold for an at-fault claim, you can seek the following damages:

  • Medical bills and related expenses. This includes current and future hospital bills, ambulance bills, follow-up visits, physical therapy, etc. Additionally, you should save receipts for any out-of-pocket purchases related to your injuries, like mobility devices, copays at the pharmacy, or equipment for physical therapy exercises you need to do at home. You may also be able to recover travel costs if you travel to see a specialist.
  • Lost income. Depending on the situation, your injuries could cause you to miss work for a few days, a few weeks, or months at a time. Even if you had paid sick days for some or all of the missed days, you are still entitled to recover compensation since you no longer have those paid days available.
  • Loss of future income. In the most severe situations, you could become permanently unable to return to work. Your attorney will calculate how much you might have earned if you continued working and will fight for a settlement to recover these losses.
  • Property damage. This usually means repair or replacement costs for a damaged vehicle but may also include damaged valuables you had in the car, like a laptop or phone.
  • Noneconomic or general damages. This can refer to physical or mental pain and suffering, loss of enjoyment of life, and other effects of the accident that are hard to quantify. Often, the insurance adjuster will try to minimize your noneconomic damages, but your attorney will fight for a fair accounting.
  • Wrongful death. If you’ve lost a loved one in a car accident, your grief could be compounded by final medical bills, funeral or burial costs, and other financial difficulties. During this time, you should be able to concentrate on being with loved ones, not worrying about insurance claims and neverending bills. We’ll seek compensation for both the financial losses and your loss of companionship, consortium, and other intangible benefits of a relationship.
